How can i obtain a unit?

Sign up using the form on the homepage.
OR
Send us an email ([email protected]) if you want to help us validate iSPEX. We can borrow you an iSPEX expedition/validation kit that comes with a grey card, two units, a calibrated smartphone.

When will the unit be mass produced?

We experience some delays in production due to availability of the retarder foils. If units become available you can order iSPEX with adapter plate for your device on the Pocket Science website.

What will be the price?

This depends a bit on the availability of the expensive polariser foils.
We will issue two versions.
  • A spectrometer only version which will cost approx $ 99
  • A spectropolarimeter version. This version will be more expensive because of the foils. Price available soon.

What options are available?

You can order a transmission case for experimental use.
For scientific campaigns/expeditions we have a kit available with a sturdy case, grey card, calibrated smartphone (dedicated) and user manual/instructions

Which apps are available?

For professional calibration and water quality measurements, we have the 'iSPEX Pro' apps available for Android and IOS
A new, very user friendly universal app is almost ready. It is able to take a picture, classify it and make it available in a personal library of spectra.
Links to these apps are available on the Pocket Science Website

What is the iSPEX HPC platform?

Images can be stored, processed and analyzed with proper metadata for scientific use. For that we have the availability of a high performance computing environment, offered by the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI) in cooperation with the COS4CLOUD EU H2020 project.

Which phone models are supported?

Most recent android and iphones are supported. For the iSPEX pro apps your device needs to support RAW capture and compass.

Who are the creators of iSPEX?

iSPEX was invented by Frans Snik and Jeroen Rietjens of Leiden University and SRON.

Who enabled development?

We extend our gratitude for the opportunity to advance this incredible creation. The optical design and pre-production models were crafted by Armand Perduijn of Bright Led Solutions. We would also like to express our appreciation to Dr Snik, Dr. Olivier Burggraaff and Professors Christoph Keller and Stefan Simis for their continued support throughout the process.
